Town Park
In June 2014, Midsomer Norton Town Council was granted planning permission to transform an area of land behind the Somer Centre into a community space for everyone to enjoy. Much of the site is a remnant of the coal mining era and was a colliery spoil heap.
Development of the Town Park has included improvements to the riverside footpath and the creation of a recreation space called Celebration Meadow. The entrance sign and sensory garden beds were built by an expert stone mason using Somerset lias natural stone, while a 300-seater amphitheatre for community events is constructed from Purbeck rockery stone. Sloping paths and steps create links to the Greenway. In 2021 the Town Council gifted the land to the Town Trust.
Silver Street Nature Reserve
A true gem! Nestled into the hillside on the edge of Midsomer Norton, Silver Street Nature Reserve has woodland, a meadow, a pond and babbling springs. Originally the site would have been part of the estate connected to a large house, which was demolished in the 1930s. Flora includes oak, hazel, ash, bluebells, dog violet, celandine and ramsons, while sparrow hawks, tawny owls and several species of bat can also be spotted. There is an interpretation board at the entrance to the site and a variety of events take place throughout the year.
Midsomer Norton Skatepark
The skatepark is an important fixture in Midsomer Norton. It was created in 2010 after many years of campaigning from the BA3 skate store, young activists from the Manic Skaterz crew, and Ian Jennings, local skatepark designer. A large, concrete design featuring bowl and plaza sections, it plays host to regular events.
