Midsomer Norton’s Cultural Consortium is delighted to release ‘Midsomer Norton High Street Heroes’. The brand new short film tells four stories of people who have made meaningful contributions to life in Midsomer Norton over the last 100 years.
Filmmaker Howard Vause created the film in collaboration with Midsomer Norton Primary School children aged 9-10. Howard and the children have been working closely together since the beginning of 2022. They carefully researched the individual stories and explored different ways of bringing them to life through film.
All of the ‘heroes’ have close connections to familiar places and spaces in Midsomer Norton. The Beauchamp Sisters grew up on Welton Manor Farm before becoming prominent suffragettes. Ian Jennings played an important role in creating Midsomer Norton’s skatepark. Duncan Steel, space scientist, started life in the old Palladium Cinema. Chris Urch, former member of the Merriman Theatre Company, is now a playwright and LGBTQ+ activist.
Over the summer, Midsomer Norton Community Trust will screen the film alongside feature films at the Town Hall’s community cinema.
